Why does PostNL charge an additional fee for the signature on delivery option for packages to Belgium starting January 1, 2024?

In line with shipments within the Netherlands, starting January 1, 2024, PostNL also charges an additional fee for insuring the purchase value of shipments to Belgium, ranging from €100 to €5,000. Please refer to the handout for an overview of all shipping options for shipments to Belgium and their corresponding rates.

Previously, since insurance for Belgian shipments was automatically included, the 'signature on delivery' shipping option was complimentary. Now that insurance is no longer included by default, this complimentary feature is no longer available. However, multiple alternative options are introduced in exchange.
