What is the volume surcharge for European shipments?

PostNL applies a volume surcharge for Dutch and European shipments with volumes greater than 50dm³. The surcharge is applied based on the space used by the parcel during the delivery process.

<50dm³: No surcharge
>50dm³ - 100dm³: €0,75
>100dm³ - 200dm³: €2,50
>200dm³: €5,95

Calculation example for a standard moving box:
Size: 48 x 32.5 x 32cm
 

You can calculate the number of dm³ by dividing the number of cm by 10. See the example below.
Content: 4.8 x 3.25 x 3.2dm = 49.9dm³
49.9dm³ is less than 50dm³: 49.9dm³ <50dm³
There is no surcharge. Only the basic rate applies to this parcel shipment.


Calculation of volume surcharge
When you create a shipment, you can specify the size of your parcel. This allows you to check whether a volume surcharge will apply. If you are eligible for a volume surcharge, we will immediately specify the total shipping costs. That way, there are no surprises later.
