What happens to my DHL parcel if the recipient is not at home?
With DHL For You Today, if the recipient is not at home, the driver will try to deliver the parcel to the neighbours or through the letterbox. If this is not successful, a second delivery attempt will be made on the evening of the next working day. After two unsuccessful delivery attempts, the DHL For You Today shipment will be returned to the sender.
With DHL Parcel Connect, this works slightly differently. Your parcel will be delivered based on the recipient's preference. If a signature for receipt has not been selected, the driver may deliver the parcel through the letterbox. If the parcel is too large for this, it will be offered to the neighbours. If this also fails, the parcel will go to a DHL Service Point where it can be collected.
With DHL Europlus, the driver makes a second attempt right after the first attempt or we get a request from the country of destination to send additional information. They then contact the recipient to make a delivery appointment.
Please always add the recipient's telephone number and email address so that the recipient can be contacted locally.
