What is meant by volumetric weight in a World Shipment?

The price for a World shipment is calculated by adding the base rate + energy surcharge + (volumetric weight x kilo surcharge). The kilo surcharge, depending on the volume (dm3) of the shipment, is determined based on either the actual weight (in kg) or the volumetric weight. This method was implemented to charge larger and/or heavier shipments more than smaller and/or lighter ones. This means that if the actual weight of a shipment is greater than the volumetric weight, the actual weight is used to calculate the kilo surcharge. If the volumetric weight is greater than the actual weight, then the volumetric weight is used. We'll explain exactly how this works with the following example.

Example shipment weighing 3 kg:

Dimensions: 40 x 30 x 60 cm

Volume: 4 x 3 x 6 dm = 72 dm3

Actual weight: 3 kg

Volumetric weight: 72 / 7.5 = 9.6 kg

The volumetric weight is calculated based on the volume (dm3) / 7.5.

In the above situation, 7.5 is the volumetric weight divisor used to calculate the kilo surcharge. The weight is always rounded up to the nearest whole kilogram, so if the result had been 9.6 kg in this case, it would be rounded up to 10 KG.
